Go Out and Do Like He Done
A newspaper columnist once reported that the following letter was one of the finest business letters he ever saw. The letter, obviously written by an illiterate salesman, said: “Dear Boss: I seen this outfit which they ain’t never bot a dime’s worth of nothing from us and I sol them a couple hundred thousand dollars worth of guds. I am now going to Chicago.”
Two days later a second letter arrived at the home office. This one read: “Dear Boss: I come here and I sol them half a milyon.”
Both letters were posted on the bulletin board along with the following note by the company president: “We’ve been spendin to much time tryin to spel, instead of tryin to sel. Let’s watch these letter from Gooch who is on the rode doin a grate job for us…and you GO OUT AND DO LIKE HEĀ DONE!”
Maybe old Gooch has a lesson for all of us. I believe it’s vitally important for us to gain as much knowledge as we can concerning what it means to be a Christian. I believe we need to spend as much time as possible reading and studying the Scriptures. But when you get right down to it, people are not so much interested in hearing what we say we believe, but rather in seeing if what we say we believe has any effect on the way we behave.
So learn all we can. But don’t stop there. Allow what we learn to shape who we are, to change the way we live, to become more loving and caring to those around us. And then SHARE what we have with others. I hope you’ll do that again this week by inviting someone to join us for worship. You’ve been doing it—just keep at it! It’s making a difference.
Let’s remember old Gooch. He’s out on the road doing a great job. LET’S GO OUT AND DO LIKE HE DONE!
